I’ve always loved this quote from Ernest Hemingway.

And it has resonated with me a lot lately. My friend lost her father to Parkinson’s disease. She was the apple of his eye. Another friend just lost her beloved husband to Acute Myeloid Leukemia after a horrific battle to get him into remission. On Saturday, I danced at the wedding of a two-time Leukemia survivor.

As a widower, I know I’m on a journey of healing – always learning new ways to carry love forward and discovering the depths of the resilience and grace that my faith affords me.

The truth is, in life, we all suffer. All of us. Some people never recover from their struggles to find peace. Some never have the opportunity to recover – some choose not to. But some do. Some can get up off the ground when all seems lost. Some find they can persevere – struggles CAN be overcome – and discover they can come back stronger than before.

Maybe I need to send this card to myself – a gentle reminder to keep pushing forward. Who will you send it to?
