If I’m being honest, the headlines today make me shudder. War. Aggression. Corruption. Families being torn apart. Sometimes it just seems to be too much to take in.

Design With Heart is proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with audacious peacemakers. We wanted to create a card that celebrates those who are doing the crucial work of compassion, coming together to solve problems, and are taking risks to help others. The world needs more of these brave souls, now more than ever. Power to the Peaceful. On Sunday, June 17, families across the country will fire up the barbecue, enjoy the summer sun, and come together to celebrate their fathers, taking the time to honor the men who have served as mentors, guardians and role models for their children. Fathers’ Day is a terrific time to recognize the many types of families that make our country so dynamic and also so interesting.

There is no single formulation for what makes a strong family, and there’s no magic map to follow to become a good father: The one thing that strong, dynamic families have in common is LOVE, and the true core component of amazing fathers is the compassion they have for their children.

One day at a time. I’ve heard it my whole life. But since my husband’s Acute Myeloid Leukemia diagnosis, it has taken on a whole new meaning. As a natural worrier, it has been a struggle to not allow the fear of tomorrow rob us of the joy of today.

A friend of ours recently lost his 8 year old daughter in a tragic accident. Another friend lost his battle to his own demons and was found dead – a father of 3 beautiful children. The news of Kate Spade’s death this week – a designer I greatly admired, was also a shock. It seems everyone really is fighting a battle of some sort. Addiction. Depression. Health. Insecurity. Emotional Distress. – the list goes on and on.

First, I want ot tell you, I am always here. Imperfect, but available. If you need a shoulder to lean on, I’m your man.

Second, I want to share the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline phone number. If you or someone you love is in distress, call 1-800-273-8255 24/7.

I designed this encouraging greeting card with the hope that it might be a form of connection – a gentle reminder to share with someone who might need to slow down, take a step back and understand they are cared for and loved.

Finally, I would like to share a Bible verse that I’ve drawn a lot of strength from over the past year and a half.
