Well Hung

How to create gallery wall

No. 1 | Collect & Curate
Almost anything can have visual impact when framed and hung in a grouping – pages from magazines, photos from recent travels and even old love letters can constitute a collection. Of course, we’re quite partial to our clean and classic Design With Heart Ohio Art Prints. Here, overscale typography mixes well with hand-drawn lettering and a spirited scarlet plaid. We recommend keeping the palette simple and using black or white frames to make your collection feel cohesive.

No. 2 | Get Centered
Lay your collection out on a tabletop or floor. Anchor your favorite-or biggest-few pieces in the center, and then slowly work in other artwork around them. Keep a few inches between the pieces — it’s all about organized chaos. 3M Command Strips make simple work of hanging the frames on the wall. A small level or keen eye helps to keep everything straight.

No. 3 | The Big Picture
Every so often, take a few steps back and view your wall from another area in the room. Pay attention to how the color and size of the pieces balance each other out.

No. 4 | All Done
Remember there are no real guidelines or rules when creating a gallery wall—it’s all up to you. Feel free to add or take away pieces as you go on, keeping the artwork relevant to your life, your interests and even the season.
